Picklepalooza
Quail Creek Pickleball Club members had a gas at their largest event ever. On March 14th, 30 courts and both ramadas were used to host over 150 players and 20 volunteers for our first Picklepalooza. Members grooved to music from the Woodstock Festival, curated by Bill Foraker, while they played pickleball, met new friends, caught some rays, and enjoyed lunch from the Horizons Bistro. The courts were swinging.
Events were organized for all skill levels. Beginners benefited from assisted play, as coaches gave advice while beginners played full games. Intermediate levels jazzed to a different type of play where winners stayed on the courts and split up, and losers rotated to new courts using a paddle saddle. Some players dug this so much they asked to borrow the equipment to do it again in their regular groups. Advanced levels had a blast with competitive play and jawing between rounds.
Many fab volunteers helped with this event. QCPC members and friends took orders for lunch before play started, helped organize and run the different groups, and served wraps from the Bistro. The weather was outta sight, and members enjoyed lunch and cookies after play.
The pickleball club is looking forward to more happenin’ events with different formats, including social, semi-competitive, and competitive play. QCPC is in the process of forming an Events Committee to organize a variety of fun experiences for members. Far out!
Much love to the following volunteers for their support: Kathleen Baker, Bobbi Jo Blythe, Frank Maier, Frank Baker, Todd Gibbons, Michael Myers, Brenda Davis, Nick Espinosa, Lauren Miene, Al Wascher, Pat Kolarik, Shireen Kolarik, Joan Wickstrom, Linda Collins, Peggy Myers, Lon Collins, Cindy Wascher, Steve Wade, Colleen Ebert, and Cathy Denney.

Scheduled Play ~
ORGANIZED PLAY
We currently have 9 play events scheduled and will be adding a new Sunset Pickleball on Monday and Wednesday evening following the open play saddle format. Look for it under events in CourtReserve and feel free to stay after and socialize and enjoy the summer evening. The ramada is open until 10 pm.
OPEN PLAY
Open play courts are available every morning during primetime for novice, intermediate and advanced play.
DESIGNATED OPEN PLAY COURTS
These change during the year but are always shown on CourtReserve/Events.
This is to provide appropriate, enjoyable levels of play for all. Players choose which side is most suitable; ratings are not required.
Courts adjust based on player demand. Example: if there are fewer players for the advanced courts, then four players with paddles stacked for the novice/intermediate courts can play on an open advanced court. Those players leave at the end of their game and again stack their paddles for the novice/intermediate courts. Players waiting for advanced courts are next on the open advanced court (unless there are still less than four). This court adjustment also applies if there are empty novice/intermediate courts and there are four or more players with paddles stacked for advanced courts.
PRIMETIME
Primetime changes will be going
into effect April-May, 8-10 am.
Schedule will be posted in April.
NOTES FROM APPL CAPTAINS
The Quail Crushers 65+ APPL team had a very fun, yet challenging season. The competition was always tough and that helped to make us better players. The team played hard, and always had fun working together.
We have to thank our captain, Judi Sorsen, for setting up practices, drills, scheduling our matches, and always being there. Thanks, too, to our coaches, Jennifer Corbin and Susie Fain, for giving us good tips and advice during practices and games. We appreciate all of you. We also thank the many people who came to watch us play our matches. Your presence gave us the desire to play well and have fun.
The Crushers enjoyed playing matches at different venues. Visiting other pickleball clubs has made us more aware of how nice the pickleball courts are here at Quail Creek! We are very lucky!
Joan Wickstrom, Quail Crushers Player and Co-Captain
The Red Hots represented Quail Creek this season in the APPL 3.5 Division for Women 65+. The competition was tough but our players were resilient. We devoted no more than two days a week to APPL so the players could have time to play socially and pursue other activities as well.
We are so grateful for all of our volunteers who helped the players improve their skills by running drills at practices and helping to coach at matches.
We would like to thank all of the spectators who attended our matches to show your support.
The team capped off the season by celebrating at the courts with food, music and fun games with our volunteers. Our motto throughout the season was to have FUN, stay POSITIVE and be SUPPORTIVE, and we did just that!
Bobbi Jo Blythe and Madelyn Witt, Red Hots Captains
The regular season for APPL has come to an end and the Quail Creek Scorpions 50+ men’s 3.5 represented Quail Creek with a strong 5-3-1 record. The team had a rough start with some but thanks to the additional of some key players, the team rallied together to pull of a strong season. The overall attitude of the team this year has been phenomenal with a good mix of camaraderie, fun and drive to win.
The climax of the schedule is March 17 when the Scorpions go to Udall park in Tucson to play in the regional championship. Winner will go to the state championship on March 30th.
The Scorpion’s opponent at regionals will be WHAM who the Scorpions have played twice during the season. Both matches were extremely close with WHAM winning the first 24-22 and the Scorpions taking the second 25-22.

Pickleball Guests
Members must continue to follow the QCPOA and QCPC policies when they have guests coming to play pickleball on our courts. The guardhouse will now start tracking guests who arrive to play pickleball and will require the name of the guest and the name of the host member. This information will go to Member Services, where they will confirm that the host member followed the process.
This guardhouse process applies only to guests coming to QC specifically to play pickleball. In-house guests follow the standard QCPOA process.
Snakes
With the weather warming rapidly, it's about time for snakes to emerge from their winter dens. Please look where you are walking when around the courts, especially in the rocky areas, where a snake can easily blend with the background. Spring is when baby snakes leave the den, and they can be the most dangerous since they are more prone to strike and haven't learned to control the flow of venom. A 3' snake can curl up into a ball not much bigger than a pickleball. Be snake aware!
