QCPC July 4th Event

Quail Creek Pickleball Club members celebrated America’s 250th with a July 4th Team Play Social Event.  Players at all levels were randomly divided into two teams, Stars and Stripes.  They enjoyed social pickleball play with a slight team twist, as individual game scores from each level were combined for the team scores.  Over 100 pickleball club members enjoyed a beautiful morning, music, and friendly competition.  Snacks and drinks were available during play, and the event concluded with cake and a prize raffle.  QCPC is looking forward to planning another fun event in the fall for our members.

Thank you to the volunteers who helped with this event and to the members who celebrated with us!

Player Development

Pickleball Machine Training

Thank you to Lauren Miene for providing pickleball machine training for club members each month this summer!

The next training is August 14th at 9:30am. Sign up on CourtReserve under Events/Categories/PB Machine Training.

You will go through safety protocols, how to reserve the machine, and use and care of the machine.  More information is under About QCPC/Pickleball Machine.

To use the pickleball machine or be on the court with the machine, whether using or not, you must be a QCPC member, receive the pickleball machine training, and sign a waiver.  Please do not be on the court with the machine at all if you have not gone through the training, even to just help pick up balls.  This is a QCPC and QCPOA requirement for liability reasons.

2.0 Assisted Play

2.0 Assisted Play is available for the summer on Tuesdays during Prime Time. Sign up on CourtReserve under Events/Categories/Player Development.

New players will play games while a mentor helps with pickleball basics. This is a good way to meet and play with other new players during the summer.

JULY 2026 “QTIPS”

From Gary Quantz, your USA/PPR Certified QCPC Instructor

Hope everyone’s summer is going well. After hanging out in Show Low for a couple weeks, wife and I enjoyed a nice 10-day drive up to Seattle late June. We visited friends and did some sightseeing in California and Oregon along the way. Listening to World Cup matches on the radio help keep the drives manageable. We’ll be hanging out with family/grandkids until our return mid-September.

Didn’t plan on playing much pickleball this summer but I’m in luck just in case! Just up the street where we are staying is a brand new PICKLR franchise that just opened a couple months ago. It’s a beautiful indoor complex with 14 courts. The best part; it’s just two blocks away. I can walk to the front door in 10 minutes. It was previously a LA Fitness complex that closed its doors several years ago. The PICKLR is a growing pickleball franchise with over 50 locations across North America. They are just one of a handful of private indoor (and outdoor) enterprises popping up nationally to meet the continuing demand and growth of this very popular sport.

I’m curious to learn where you snowbirds and vacationers play pickleball when away from Quail Creek. Drop me a line and some info on where you play besides Green Valley. I hope to share some of your locations in a future newsletter.

GQ hanging out with the granddaughters for another fun-filled summer!

Scheduled Play

Open Play

Summer is here, and with it, hot weather, monsoons and humidity.  It may not be ideal playing conditions but remember, it isn’t snow and sleet!

So, if you love pickleball and hate the heat come on down to the courts early.   We have reserved courts for OPEN PLAY starting at 6 am to 9 am for the remainder of the summer.  Bring a friend, or two or three, and head down to the courts for as many or as few games as you want.  Attendance has been spotty with the heat so bring your peeps and get your game on before the summer sun has had a chance to do its thing.

We will continue to offer scheduled play throughout the week during prime time as well as our Wednesday Open Play Round Robin.  Check CourtReserve for details.  With the court resurfacing there may be some changes to court assignments.

As always, remember, be courteous and be kind.  Don’t let the heat get to you.  Pickleball is for everyone!

Major League Pickleball

Major League Pickleball (MLP) is a co-ed team league featuring 20 franchises made up of over 100 professional pickleball players. Co-ed rosters of men and women compete together, emphasizing team dynamics, intense rivalries, and a unique "DreamBreaker" singles tiebreaker.  The season spans multiple regular-season stops in various team markets. Events feature group round-robin play followed by high-stakes bracket finals. Teams accumulate standings points throughout the year to qualify for the year-end playoffs and championship

MLP matches focus strictly on doubles play and require teams to utilize all four players (two men and two women). A single match consists of four standard games: Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles, and two Mixed Doubles games. All four games are played regardless of the score. If the teams are tied 2-2 after these games, the match goes to a DreamBreaker, which is an intense, rotating singles tiebreaker where all four players participate.

Reminders

Lost and Found

If you find a lost item at the courts, you can:

  • Place it in the Lost and Found tub at the Ramada.

  • Take it to a Quail Creek Lost and Found (Canyon Club being the closest). This would be especially helpful if it is an expensive item.

  • Contact the owner if there is contact information on the item.

Protect Our Courts

Our courts are durable but they are not impervious to damage. If you are using a pickleball machine please check underneath it to make sure there is nothing scratching the court surface. Use a mat under it if questionable. Also be careful with chairs, metal ball baskets, training aids, etc. on the courts. Place a towel or mat under them if needed.

If you see someone abusing the courts call Patrol at 520-393-2941.

Music on the Courts

Playing music on QC courts (except for Club-sponsored events) is neither prohibited nor encouraged.  However, members wishing to play music should be considerate of other Club members on the courts.  Factors to consider include court location, speaker volume and placement, time of day, nearby lessons, drills, or clinics, and other players and people in the vicinity. Music must be played at a volume that is acceptable to all players on your court and surrounding courts, and the speaker must be on the court with the person playing the music.

If the music cannot be turned down enough so that it is not disturbing other members, then the music should be turned off.  In other words, in the event of a conflict over music, the default resolution is “no music.” We don’t want issues like this to result in hard feelings or escalation to the Board.

Court Resurfacing

Courts 1-16 are being resurfaced this month. Courts are taking longer than a week to cure so please stay off them until they are opened up in CourtReserve/Reservations. Be sure to check the Reservations page on CourtReserve for current updates.

Here is the schedule for each group of courts:

Week of July 6 - courts 5-8

Week of July 13 - courts 9-12

Week of July 20 - courts 1-4

Week of July 27 - courts 13-16
