Welcome to the 2026-27 Pickleball Season!
The QCPC board is back in session starting in September. We are discussing and working on some enhancements to our club offerings. You can expect more detailed information on these topics in the October and November Newsletters.
Shift to two PrimeTimes starting in November to relieve the pressure of getting courts in primetime
Transition to online elections in March - this will need membership approval at the November member meeting
Expanding our Player Development options
Developing an Events plan with an array of formats throughout the year including a Club Championship in March

First Aid Kits and AEDs
As you have probably noticed, we’ve spent some time and effort on the safety of our members over the last 6 months. We’ve hung first aid stations at both ramadas and the POA is close to moving the AEDs out of the women’s restrooms and onto the new stations during play times. If you haven’t had full CPR training but would like to better understand when and how to use an AED in an emergency, this is a good 3 minute video from the American Heart Association. To understand how to use our specific AED, watch this 2 minute video.
Bag Tags
In addition, the club has purchased bag tags for all of our members. On one side of the tag is the address for the QC courts, the phone number for rattlesnake assistance and the number for QC patrol. The address for our courts is particularly important, as it is the only way you can quickly tell a 911 operator your location and get emergency services here as fast as possible. On the other side, you can put your name and phone number in the event you ever misplace your bag.
We will begin handing out the tags at the courts on September 17th and continue to hand them out throughout the year and as new members join the club.

Volunteer Recruiting Day

QCPC needs you! QCPC is looking for volunteers to donate 1-3 hours per month to help our club continue to grow and add new opportunities for our members. We’re not asking for a major commitment of time.
The volunteer event will be on October 17th from 1-3pm at the Upper Ramada.
Board Members and Committee chairs will be on hand to discuss opportunities for volunteering.

Pickleball RX Demo Day
October 17th 1-3pm
In case you haven’t heard, Tucson has a new pickleball retailer called Pickleball RX. The team at Pickleball RX has a mobile van and has offered to bring demo paddles and merchandise to Quail Creek for players. The first Demo Day will take place on October 17th from 1-3PM at the same time as our volunteer recruiting event.
Pickleball RX will bring 40-50 demo paddles to try and bring new paddles so members can purchase on the spot or place an order. They will also bring an assortment of shoes and bags.
Come on down to the upper ramada and see what they have to offer.

Pickleball RX Demo Program

The Pickleball RX store in Tucson has a paddle demo program that lets you try before you buy. Since new paddles can be expensive, I thought this was a nice service for club members to know about. I was able to try paddles of different brands, cores, and shapes. When I brought them back to the store, the owner/operator, Robby Morgan, talked with me about them and what I could try next.
Summary of the program:
$30 for 30 days of renting
2 paddles can be taken out for up to 7 days
professional advice and recommendations based on your feedback
once you find a paddle you like they will give you a $30 credit towards that paddle new
The store also has shoes, bags, and other pickleball merchandise.

QCPC Events
The QCPC Events Committee is hard at work planning some great activities for our club members. Thank you to Karen Polhemus for offering to organize this group of volunteers in planning and implementing a wide array of activities, including social, semi-competitive, and competitive events.
Planning is underway for a November Dinks and Drinks event to warm us up for the 2027 Pickleball season. In January, we’ll welcome everyone back with a Pickleball Social followed by pizza and libations. Wonder what your pickleball partners look like without hats and sunglasses? Join us for an all members and significant others dinner and dancing in February. During the month of March we will have a Club Championship. Join the competition or cheer the players on; however you enjoy this event, it should be fun.

Interested in helping coordinate specific QCPC Events? Prefer to help out the day of the event? Do you have event skills and/or ideas that you would like to offer in support of club events? Organized Play Attendance Policy
Members are allowed to participate in one primetime individual round robin, one primetime ladder or non-skill event and one primetime mixed doubles event per week. Members can participate in an unlimited number of events outside of primetime.
Also, please note that once signed up for an event it is your responsibility to withdraw in a timely manner if you cannot attend. All organized play events are scheduled with byes built in to accommodate as many players as possible. Please keep that in mind when registering. If you do not want to participate in an event with a bye or do not want to attend in full, please consider open play. Withdrawing or leaving early from an event puts an unnecessary burden on our volunteers.
Club Open Play
Open Play is for all QCPC Members and their house guests, prospective Quail Creek purchasers in an authorized Robson marketing program, and QC residents who have registered for an online QCPC account.
Club Open Play is available Monday-Saturday year-round. Morning Open Play is scheduled during Prime Time hours.
If reserved Club Open Play courts aren’t all being used and if other courts are full, then Quail Creek residents and guests may use the open Club Open Play courts. If additional QCPC members arrive at the Open Play courts and are waiting to play, then the Quail Creek residents and guests using the formerly vacant court(s) should release the court for use in Open Play as soon as possible.
A round robin is scheduled every Wednesday during Prime Time. Sign up is at the Ramada 20 minutes before the round robin begins.
Winter League
We are looking to provide a winter league. If interested in being on a committee to establish what this would look like and/or to be a team captain please contact Brenda Davis at scheduledplayqcpc@gmail.com
All match play would be in Quail Creek, practice and match courts will be provided. Registration will take place in October/November with match play in January/February.

Player Development
In October, our player development team will be returning with clinics and assisted play activities for club members just beginning the pickleball journey up through our experienced 3.0 levels. We’re also looking at some alternate ways to bring skill development to club members looking to progress to the 3.5/4.0 range. We’ll be introducing private group clinics where club members can organize 4-10 people and request a player development volunteer do a clinic on specific skill(s). Also in consideration is a play up round robin and a teach and play clinic where larger groups can play against higher level players and ask questions during the match or just test their skills. More information to follow in the coming weeks.

Groups are starting to form for the 2027 APPL League.

Court Reservations for Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) Play
QCPC will reserve courts and the adjacent ramada for Quail Creek APPL teams to play matches if at least 60% of team members are QCPC members. APPL team practice courts will be reserved by the team in accordance with the guest policy. APPL team matches will be held outside of primetime. QCPC may limit the days, times, and courts available for APPL matches based on QCPC activities and other considerations.
QCPC Policies and Procedures for APPL Guests
Visiting Players in the Arizona Pickleball Players League, Intercommunity Play, and Other Approved Tournaments/Events Open to Non-Residents
a. Must sign the QCPOA Waiver (as modified for league play, tournaments, and other approved events)
Instructions for completing this form:
i. The QCPC team captain or organizer/sponsor of the approved event should print out this form (posted on CourtReserve under the Resources tab) or find it in the folder at the ramada and bring it to the event.
ii. The QCPC team captain or organizer/sponsor of the approved event should obtain the signature of every guest participant prior to the start of play.
iii. The QCPC team captain or organizer/sponsor of the approved event should place the signed QCPOA waiver in the folder at the ramada for the membership chair or send the signed QCPOA Waiver to MembershipQCPC@gmail.com.
b. The QCPC Scheduled Play chair must send an email to QCPOA Member Services and Security with the date and time of these events.

3.0 APPL Teams
3.0 Players: Ready for Some Competition?
Are you a 3.0 player (self-rated or rated) interested in taking your game beyond regular QC play?
QCPC is encouraging participation in the Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL) for the 2027 season. APPL provides organized team competition against players from other Southern Arizona communities.
I’m looking for interested 3.0 players to explore potential Quail Creek teams for the January–March 2027 season. And there’s already momentum! After talking with many QC players (men and women) over the Summer, I’m finding growing interest in trying league play.
Men’s • Women’s • Mixed • 50+ • 65+
Never played league pickleball? No problem. You don’t need APPL experience — just an interest in more competitive play and being part of a team.
I’m planning an informational meeting in late October, in person and virtual, to explain how APPL works, answer questions and determine which teams we can form. Interested? There’s no commitment.

With summer season ending, registered outside guest limits during prime time will return to 1 guest per playing group starting October 1st when prime time changes
Registered house guests are allowed to play in Open Play. Registered guests are allowed to play in private court reservations made by a Quail Creek resident, with a maximum of one guest per playing group during prime time. Guests are not allowed to play in QCPC events, such as Scheduled Play, Player Development activities, and other events, where QCPC membership is required.
All adult friends or relatives invited by QCPC members to play pickleball in Quail Creek must register with Member Services and obtain a Guest Card prior to playing in Quail Creek. The QCPOA may require a daily check-in for guests with Guest Cards permitting QC facility use on multiple days. See POA Rules, section 12.1.
