Invitation to Join Classes

from Brian Martin

Pro Instructor and Player

Hello Quail Creek Pickleball Club Members!

I just wanted to express my thanks for an amazing Meet & Greet last week.  I continue to be impressed with the overall involvement within your community and the quality of people that I have met. It is a joy and privilege to be partnering with your club and I can’t wait to return. We had a wonderful time meeting you all and sharing demos of the upcoming clinics scheduled for Feb 22nd & 23rd .

Initial registrations are now coming in and the clinics are quickly filling up.  Please be sure to sign up on CourtReserve so that you can reserve your spot.

Here’s a quick reminder of what you can expect:

Path to 4.0:  A two-day foundational clinic for anyone hoping to break that 4.0 barrier.  We’ll work on 8 key aspects of the game that you must understand to be successful on the court.

LiveSHOT for both 3.5+ & 4.0+:  These are “Live” action sessions that allow you to implement new strategies in a

competitive environment.  It’s a fun way to learn & build your skills!

4.0 & 4.5 Skills Training: These are practice sessions to learn new strategies and build skills through repetition.  It’s a must add to your drill routine if you want to see improvement to your game!

Once again, thank you so much for inviting us into your community.  The weekend of Feb 22nd  & 23rd will be an incredible experience and we can’t wait to be a part of it!!  I look forward to seeing you all there!

QCPC Pickleball Socials

“All You Need is Love” Mixed Round Robin Social boasted perfect weather along with 64 enthusiastic players. Several lucky players won prizes after play was over and four won gift cards for finding the hidden Valentine Gnomes.

The highlight was having our VP Frank Baker recognize David Thomas for six years heading up Court Maintenance. It’s impossible to know how many balls David has retrieved and how many snake encounters he’s had. Everyone expressed their gratitude for David and as you might expect, David gave thanks to the Club! We are fortunate to have so many caring and dedicated volunteers.

The next Social will be held on April 12 so please “save the date”. Please only sign up if you are planning to play. There were five no shows for the February 8 Social with 15 people on the waitlist that didn’t get to play. The Social Committee was scrambling at the last minute to find players.

Looking Good = Better Play

Lost weight? Gained weight? Bought something you don’t love? If so, it’s time to get those items out of your closet and shop for something else. Between March 3–8, you can drop off your gently used women’s athletic wear at Tricia Kordalski’s house at 1417 N Miranda Ln. There will be a box to leave your items outside her front door. If you can’t see the label on the inside collar of a top, the item is probably not “gently used”.

On March 11 from 11 AM – 2 PM at the Lower Level Ramada, members of the Pickleball Social Committee will be on hand to help you shop for carefully selected used women’s athletic wear. Items will be affordably priced and the committee will accept cash or checks. The proceeds will help fund future QCPC events. Tricia Kordalski and Tina Davis are leading this clothing sale so you know it will also be a social event that will include a mimosa and appetizers.

WANTED: NEW PICKLEBALL

SOCIAL CHAIR

Love to plan parties? Love to entertain? The position of Pickleball Social Chair may be the perfect fit for your talents. Roxanne Housley’s term ends this August and the Club is anxious to find a replacement. It would be ideal for an incoming Chair to have an opportunity to work with Roxanne and her committee as they plan the next couple of Socials and the Volunteer Appreciation Event. If this is something you’d like to know more about, please reach out to Roxanne: roxanne.housley@gmail.com.

Elections of QCPC Officers

at the Annual Meeting in March

Nominees Needed

Do you love pickleball?  Do you participate in QCPC activities (socials, club round robins, player development, etc.)?  Do you use CourtReserve?  Do you look at QCPC newsletters, the club website, bulletin boards, and the QCPC Facebook page?  Do you sit under the shade sails or use the bike racks or pickleball machine?  If so, you are enjoying years of work by QCPC's officers and Board of Directors.

Each year, QCPC members elect new club officers (who also serve as members of the QCPC Board of Directors).  Elections will be held for the President and Treasurer positions at the Annual Meeting in March.  The Nominating Committee (John Lehman) is actively looking for candidates to fill these positions and a potential vacancy for Vice President.  These positions are essential to the club's continued success.

If pickleball in QC is important to you, this may be the right time for you to step up so that QCPC continues to thrive.  Newer members and players of all skill levels are welcome.  All you need is a willingness to work on behalf of all club members.  Please "pay it forward" so future QCPC members will enjoy playing here as much as you do.  QCPC needs you.   Contact John Lehman (jal722x@yahoo.com).

Here are the position descriptions for President, Vice President, and Treasurer:

President - The President shall be the chief administrator of the QCPC and shall preside over all membership and Board meetings, shall be an ex-officio member of all committees, shall appoint, with Board approval, the Committee Chairpersons, and at the direction of the Board or membership, shall appoint special committees. The President shall also be responsible for issuing guidelines and rules for club activities when there are safety concerns or other requirements not covered by these By-laws.

Vice-President - The Vice-President shall assist the President and shall, in his/her absence, perform the duties of that office. The Vice-President will also assume responsibilities as assigned by the Board.

Treasurer - The Treasurer as the chief financial officer of the QCPC, shall be responsible for receiving the annual dues from the Membership Chairperson, and other monies received, shall pay all bills owed by the QCPC, shall present a financial report at each meeting of the Board and membership, shall present the Treasurer’s Annual Report to the Board at the next meeting subsequent to the end of the fiscal year, and shall file the tax return by the appropriate IRS deadline.

We are extremely lucky to be members of the Quail Creek Pickleball Club! Many communities and municipalities that build courts do nothing more than reserve them. However, here in Quail Creek, our club offers so much more. From the very beginning, when our first 16 courts were built, many new members wanted more than just to come down and bang the ball around. Past board members realized the significance of creating a PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM to help our members learn how to play this up-and-coming sport.

Fast forward to today, our current board members maintain the importance of player development which continues to offer new programs, class instruction provided by both volunteer and paid instructors, and various types and levels of play (including assisted, open, ladder, and organized) which provides a wide variety of choices for our members to improve and enjoy the game of pickleball. You want to improve your game? Take advantage of all that is offered to help you in your “pickleball journey” here in Quail Creek!

JANUARY 2025 NUMBERS

For you “numbers” people, January class numbers were steady with a total of 102 students participating – THANK YOU! I taught a total of 26 classes which included REGULAR, PRIVATE, & “KLINICS with KATHY”.

By print time, there will be one more week of February classes. DON’T DELAY, I’ll be gone the first full week of March to visit family in Seattle and will resume lessons on Monday, March 10th. March schedules will be posted on Court Reserve and on flyers at the court kiosks shortly.

See you on the courts!

2.5 Winter League Starts

On February 15th, Hold the Pickles hosted the Day Dinkers in our first week of the inaugural 2.5 Winter League. Player's were Brenda Allred, Rich Rapuzzi, Barbara Lando and Dan Carter vs Chris Beall, Vanessa Steed, Pam Roline and Greg Steed. The weather was beautiful and the great play was enjoyed by a small, yet enthusiastic audience! Additionally, Shireen Kolarik provided a mini training session with other players, which also included members from our third team Dinks 'n Drives.

The 2.5 Winter League will be held on Saturdays at 1pm through March 22nd. Come out and cheer everyone on!

Scheduled Play Volunteer Opportunities

The backbone of QCPC are volunteers, and without them, we would not exist. We are always in need of more volunteers.

Currently, under the Scheduled Play umbrella, we have 3 levels of Open Play offered both in the morning and afternoon, Wednesday Open Play Round Robin, and 6 Organized Play events. It would be great to see new or previous events come back! In order to make this happen, we need individuals to step up and help organize.

Some suggested events:

Skill Level Play (utilize Pickleball ratings)

Afternoon or Evening Organized Play

Paddle Battle

Have you experienced other events outside of QC? We would like to hear suggestions that you are willing to share and lead with your fellow players. We do encourage any club member to petition the Board to evaluate additional Scheduled Play events. If you are interested in volunteering, please submit your petition to ScheduledPlayQCPC@gmail.com.

Desert Die Hards

The Desert Die Hards are a 3.5 women’s team playing in the Arizona Pickleball Players League (APPL). New partnerships have been formed and everyone is enjoying the camaraderie of our group. Many skills have been learned from Naomi’s drills and we are improving every day with purposeful placement. We have met many new players and have enjoyed the challenges of playing other teams.

There are three matches remaining in our season. Please come out and cheer us on!
